AN INTRODUCTION TO ISLAM

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
quran-e-hakim.net aims to help reverts understand Islam - the straight path of the Sunnis. As a revert in 1983 I know only how hard it is to try to find your way through the myriad of information - some of it completely wrong - that can come your way in your journey to win the love of the one true God - Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala - Glory be to Him, the Most High).
But, remember, if you have reverted to Islam that quest to win His love may be far easier than you thought, because if you have already reverted you have only done so by His leave, not by any virtue of your own. Only He, He alone and nobody else but Him, can open a person's heart, can open their mind, so that they believe Islam - the straight path of the Sunnis - is the true religion and they should embrace it. And that means He already loves you - otherwise He would never have turned to you with the compassion, the love, that reversion really means.
My name is Ian Charles Calderwood. My details appear below, following the introduction. And yes, I do have a Muslim name. It is Muhammed Yahya Abdullah, but I rarely use it. Allah knows why and that is sufficient for me.
If you want to travel with me through the beauty that Islam can bring then remember I live - or to be more accurate I try to live - by a guiding principle that is embedded in the Qur'an.
That principle is set out in the last ayat of Surah Taubah. chapter nine of the Holy Quran. And these are the words of my Beloved Who has never failed me. And Who never will. And, no, Insha-Allah (Allah willing) is not necessary. Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala - Glory be to Him, the Most High) never makes mistakes. He never fails anyone. They only fail themselves.
And this is the translation: "But if they turn away, then say, ˹O Prophet, “Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. In Him I put my trust. And He isthe Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
And these are the words that you should beg your Beloved to etch on your heart. “Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. In Him I put my trust. And He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
And, they should be recited in Arabic. If you have reverted to Islam, but have not yet learnt Arabic then here is a transliteration for you so you can recite it to your Beloved: Initially it is a transliteration of the complete ayat.

"Fa in tawallaw faqul hasbiyal laahu laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa ‘alaihi tawakkkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul ‘Arshil ‘Azeem."

And then these are the words you recite to Him:

"hasbiyal laahu laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa ‘alaihi tawakkkaltu wa Huwa Rabbul ‘Arshil ‘Azeem."

And I do not use the word Beloved lightly. if you have embraced Islam, whether you know it or you don't, Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala - Glory be to Him, the Most High) is your Beloved. He is your only Friend, Helper and Protector. Yes, you may have friends, that is obvious. But, the reality is they are only friends by His leave. He can break or make those relationships at any time He pleases. So, choose your friends wisely and well.

Remember the warning from Rasoolullah - the Prophet Muhammad - (sall-Allahu alayhi wa-sallam - may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that a Muslim should keep good company.  If you have reverted to Islam and still have friends from your days as a non-Muslim that is fine providing they are not fighting the religion. If they are - if they are saying anything hurtful about your reversion - shun them.

Your first loyalty is always to your Lover - Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala - Glory be to Him, the Most High) but if your parents have not reverted you must still obey them in all lawful matters - except your religion. If they are urging you to leave Islam, refuse politely but speak gently.

Even if your mother has not reverted your first responsiblity - outside of  Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala - Glory be to Him, the Most High) - is to her. You must serve her righteously and always treat her with respect. There are warnings in Islam about this.
